Guide to promise rings for couples

In more than one way, your jewelry for couples is one of the most important things you have. In addition to the price, choosing an engagement band is a sentimental purchase.

It’s a fact: couples necklaces are precious jewelry that should be protected. It is understandable that if your ring was made from simulated diamonds, you might be unsure of how to look after it. Good news! You are not alone. The care you give your ring will help to maintain its beauty for a long time and prevent it from being lost or damaged.

Your Engagement Ring: How to Care For It

The complete engagement ring guide will show you the steps to follow to keep your ring shining, regardless of the style. Plus, you’ll learn some of the best tips and tricks for making your diamond and diamond-alternative sparkle.

    Get Insurance

It is important to have your ring insured right away. Preferably, before you ever leave the jewelry shop. In most cases you will be allowed to add the ring onto your existing homeowners’ or renters’ insurance policy, with a rider which includes a value of all the characteristics. The details of this document are provided directly by the jeweler, and include more information than the receipt.

All too often, rings are purchased and brought home to be used as part of a marriage proposal but they are not used until several months have passed. During that time, damage, theft, loss, or any other type of incident could occur to the ring. Sending the right documentation to your insurance agency and having the ring included in your policy will protect you and your investment. If for some reason you are not able to add the rings to your homeowners policy or renters’ policy, then you can consider getting a different policy such as valuable property insurance to cover the ring.

    Keep It Clean

If you don’t regularly clean your ring as you wear it, dirt, oil and other residues will cling onto the diamond. They can then lodge themselves into the setting and reduce the sparkle. If you do no regularly clean your ring then there is little point in buying a diamond. Keep your ring looking great without the need for professional cleaning. The process is simple and can be completed in only a few seconds. This is how you can clean your engagement at home.

Start by filling up a small glass with lukewarm filtered water. Add one drop dish detergent. Stir the water with dish soap using a fork or spoon. You should not use any abrasive or chlorine-based chemicals, such as bleach. They could damage the finish on your ring or its precious metal.

Then, allow the ring to soak about 10 minutes in the warm soapy water. This helps loosen dirt or grime.

Next, remove your ring. Use a soft bristle cleaning brush such as a toothbrush to gently clean all the sides and edges as well the back.

Continue the soaking process and brushing a couple of times more to ensure you remove all residues from the ring.

If you haven’t already, you can rinse the ring under running water (just to be safe in case you dropped it).

Your ring can be dried with a lintless towel or hair dryer. Allowing your ring to dry naturally is fine, but water stains may appear on your diamond. They are harmless, but can diminish the appearance of your ring.

Your engagement ring’s cleaning frequency will be determined by the daily wear and tear it receives. To keep your ring shining brightly, we recommend cleaning at least four time per year. If you don’t feel confident cleaning your ring yourself, or you just prefer to not do so, most jewelers are able to clean it in only a few moments and without additional charge!

    Check It Out

At least once every year, you should take your ring to a jeweler and have it professionally checked. This will allow a trained person to examine your engagement ring and make sure it’s still in great condition. The prongs of the engagement rings are checked to make sure that they have not become loose over time. If this happens, the stone could fall out. Diverse metals also require special attention to keep a smooth, shiny surface. Platinum and yellow-gold, for example will need to have their surfaces polished. White gold must also be treated with rhodium periodically to maintain its luster and color. Some jewelers may offer this service at a minimal fee, or they may provide the whole or part of it for free.

Diamond Nexus provides a lifetime stone guarantee on every diamond alternative. This ensures the stone will remain perfect in terms of diamond quality and that it won’t crack, chip or fade. If that happens, we replace it forever, free of charge. The Everything’s Covered Plan is included with every purchase of an engagement ring. This plan covers everything up to one-year after the date the ring was purchased. This includes repairs for loose stones, lost stones and metalwork.

Although we recommend this be done by your jeweler, you can do it yourself if you are keeping an eye on your ring. By simply looking over the ring, you can ensure the safety of the diamond or alternative. Bring it to the jeweler if one of the prongs is shorter than all others. Consider shaking the ring next to your ears by holding it between two fingers. If you can hear any kind of noise from your ring, then it is time to bring it in to get the setting tightened.

    Avoid Resizing

If your ring seems too small or large, it’s tempting to take it to your jeweler. You should remember that there can be several reasons why your ring feels like the wrong size. Weather, weight changes, and traveling all can affect how your ring fits. You may want to consider a ring size adjustment if the band is too tight or too loose.
